Garment Vacuum Packing

GIST INTERNATIONAL

In 2003 Pladrest successfully completed the installation of a self contained vacuum packing facility for Gist International at Hemel Hempstead.

The plant is used for conditioning and vacuum packing garments for Marks & Spencer Plc, which are flown to over 20 destinations world-wide.

Pladrest were asked to design and build a system capable of handling the increasing volumes of garments processed through the distribution warehouse each year. The equipment was to provide ease of use, improved handling, low maintenance as well as a comfortable working environment for the operators. The plant design was developed along with Gist to ensure it matched the garment flow and provide opportunity for expansion.

The plant is comprised of a high volume conditioning tunnel, large packing room with automated vacuum packing machinery and self contained plant room housing all the process equipment. The plant is controlled and monitored via a plc with simple start-up and shut-down push button controls. A touch-screen HMI is provided with graphics to show the plant conditions and the ability to log and record conditions in the tunnel and packing room.

The equipment has been in full production for 18 months, much of the time running on 3 shifts and productivity has been increased by 90%.
